Hakone & Mt. Fuji

Kara and Chris really wanted to see Mt. Fuji and they planned an all day trip on Thursday to see it, which included Hakone. They invited to tag along and I took them up on their offer since I had never been there. We ventured to catch our big bus at 8:30am. We finally left around 9am with only 19 people including us, the tour guide and driver, in our big bus.

3.5 hours later, we arrived at the 5th station on Mt. Fuji. This station is pretty high up and is where many climbers start their trek up the mountain. For us, it was a nice way to see Mt. Fuji without having to endure the trek. However, the mountain was not cooperating, so we couldn't see the top due to some clouds. On another note, I want to climb Mt. Fuji, but Mike doesn't want to do it again. Will be working on the convincing! Here are a few shots from the 5th station.

This is a view looking over the other side...

After our viewing, we headed back down the mountain and into Hakone, a nice, relaxing city in the mountatins, that is absolutely beautiful. We had lunch and then took a gondola ride up over Lake Ashi and the mountains. It was amazing and we got to see even better views of Mt. Fuji with the top.

We landed at our stop along the way and headed up to see the sulfur gas area. You can actually see the sulfur come up. This is also where they had black eggs. The sulfur turns the shell black and they are said to be magic eggs, increasing your life expectancy by 7 years for every egg you eat. We had to try some and we did. It tasted like any other hard boiled egg, but we will each live 7 years longer.

Next we headed to the Lake, where we took a ride on the pirate ship around Lake Ashi. It really was a pirate ship and here is its sister ship, so you can see, I am not lying.

The views were gorgeous and the air so fresh. This lake is really cool especially since its about 700 feet above ground and a crater lake.

After our ride, it was time to head back home after the days events. Chris booked the smart way home, on the bullet train, which only took 40 minutes. The rest of the people had to endure another 3+ hour ride back in the middle of rush hour traffic. I think we were all ready to get off the bus! It was such a fun day and I am glad they let me tag along.
